the Solution for Leonardo

Enel X and Leonardo: together for energy self-production

Leonardo’s energy self-production plan aims to reduce emissions by increasing the share of green energy it uses, diversifying its energy supply sources.

Enel X and Leonardo signed an agreement for the realization of photovoltaic plants at different Leonardo’s Italian sites that will cover 10% of the annual sites’ energy needs. The project is part of Leonardo’s self-production program, it is aimed at increasing the quantity of the electric power consumed and produced from renewables, thereby reducing emissions.

The client

Leonardo, a high-tech global firm, is among the world’s leading companies in the aerospace, defense and security sector.

Leonardo is organized into five business divisions, and holds a significant industrial presence in Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland and the US where it also operates through subsidiary firms such as Leonardo DRS (defense electronics) and with joint ventures and partnerships: ATR, MBDA, Telespazio, Thales Alenia Space and Avio.

The agreement’s benefits

Enel X’s challenge

Leonardo needs to improve the energy efficiency and increase the value of its industrial sites, reducing emissions and increasing the quantity of auto-produced electric power supplied by renewables.
The agreement foresees the installation of top-notch photovoltaic panels at Leonardo’s plants, enabling the supply of power from 6.6 MWp PV plant.
The installation of the photovoltaic system will cover the energy needs of 10% of Leonardo’s involved sites, increasing their self-production capacity, reducing costs, increasing the value of its industrial sites and contributing to cutting emissions by over 2,800 tons of CO per year.
