Gillette Stadium Goes Green With Enel X

The points scored by the New England Patriots between now and the end of the 2019 season are set to be even more thrilling, because they will be 100% eco-friendly. Thanks to the partnership between Enel XEnel North America and Kraft Sports + Entertainment, Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts has gone “green” and not only because of the color of its field. The famed American football team’s home matches will run entirely on clean and renewable energy, supplied by Enel Green Power North America. Furthermore, in November 2019 Enel X will begin installation of 50 JuiceBox e-vehicle charging stations in Patriot Place, with the aim of promoting the culture of sustainable mobility.

A Sustainable Light on Patriots Games

On October 27, Gillette Stadium turned green, literally,as the color tinted the stadium logo and all the advertising hoardings distributed along the 100 yards of field before the game. It was a way to celebrate this important milestone together with all the fans watching from the stands. For the remainder of the 2019 season, the Patriots team will have new sustainable light to energize their home games. Kraft Sports + Entertainment has purchased 270 MWh of renewable energy credits from Enel Green Power North America, enough to power the five games left to play at Gillette Stadium before the end of this season.

Scalable, intelligent, avant-garde solutions for people, cities and businesses

The JuiceBox stations installed at Patriot Place, the open-air shopping mall built around Gillette Stadium, give visitors the opportunity to charge their e-vehicles using the JuiceNet platform. The smart software monitors the grid, acquiring real time information to best manage charging station requests and so assist the stadium in supporting peak electricity demand, by using the times when electricity costs are lower and renewable energy is most available.

About Enel X and Kraft

Enel X provides the Kraft Group with energy advisory service solutions to track and analyze their energy usage at Gillette Stadium, and reduce energy consumption in addition to  utility bill management to identify potential errors. The Foxborough Stadium is enrolled in Enel X’s demand response programme in Massachusetts, thereby helping to contribute to the stability of the electricity grid during peak demand periods, powering down consumption in certain areas when required.
Working in synergy with the Enel Group, the Kraft Group aims to minimize the environmental impact of Gillette Stadium and Patriot Place and demonstrate that sport becomes even more thrilling when powered by environmentally sustainable choices. The state of Massachusetts is not only home to the New England Patriots, it is also the site of the North American headquarters of Enel X and Enel Green Power North America, plus the location chosen for the Group’s tenth global Innovation Hub, inaugurated in May at Greentown Labs in Boston, the largest cleantech startup incubator in the US.
