Enel X is Official Smart Charging Partner

Over one million viewers followed the live TV broadcast, 30,000 people filled the stands overlooking the circuit and the hashtag #formulaeday triumphed as a trending topic on Twitter: the first Italian E-Prix, held on Saturday April 14 in Rome’s EUR district, was a resounding success. Enel X is the Official Smart Charging Partner and Official Power Partner of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, and recently confirmed its support for a further five seasons.

Formula E, a 100% Green Race

The electric championship exhilarated the public with an extraordinary race as DS Virgin Racing driver Sam Bird secured his victory with breathtaking moves and deft strategies to conserve battery life. The 2o electric single-seaters completed 33 laps of the circuit that includes 21 corners and a 2,860-meter straight. Enel X contributed its innovative smart technologies, supplying electric energy from 100% renewable sources as well as a completely digitalized microgrid.
The event also hosted the presentation of the new 80 kW Superchargers developed by Enel. The latest-generation batteries can store double the amount of energy, meaning that the next season of the green GP will see the cars complete the race without having to stop for a refill.

Four Fast Charging Stations for the City

Formula E offered an additional opportunity for the city of Rome to promote the culture of electric mobility and to raise awareness among racing enthusiasts that an engine powered by green energy sources can provide the same thrills and same range as polluting vehicles.

For this reason Enel has installed four fast charging stations with free Wi-Fi hotspots in the EUR district for permanent use by city residents.

This comes as part of the  EVA+ Italian and European charging infrastructure project, and is in addition to over 120 charging stations already installed across Rome. The event also included a preview of JuiceRoll, a portable fast charger for electric motorcycles that will be used in the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup. The first season is scheduled for 2019, with Enel as Title Sponsor.

Sustainable Mobility Picks Up Speed

The day’s enthusiasm was echoed by significant participation from the Twitter community, not only during the live stream of the eco-friendly race but also during the #EnelFocusOn event dedicated to e-mobility. The keynote speaker was Brian Solis, the renowned analyst of disruptive technologies, who addressed an audience of international influencers. Sustainable mobility is picking up speed. On the track, in the city and on the web.
