PepsiCo sustainability initiatives

Enel X helps the multinational company meet its sustainability goals and prepare for the future by installing a photovoltaic solar system

Trailblazing PepsiCo Chile turns to Enel X

When PepsiCo Chile decided it needed to boost the efficiency and sustainability of the energy it uses, it turned to solar power and Enel X.

We built the company a photovoltaic solar system on one of its industrial warehouses, making PepsiCo Chile one of the first companies in the country to install what is set to become one of the power systems of the future.

Solar, which in Chile currently represents about 70% of new clean energy generation, is experiencing the fastest growth among renewables. At present, about 7% of the country’s electricity is generated from renewables, a figure that’s destined to increase hugely as demand for electricity globally rises by 60% by 2040.

Distributed Energy Generation and Infrastructure Solutions

Distributed Energy and Infrastructure

Save money and improve the site’s resiliency by generating sustainable power locally

The growing climate crisis alone justifies PepsiCo Chile

Why make a transition to clean power sources effort to shift to clean power sources. The country is extremely vulnerable to the impact of climate change, with natural disasters becoming more frequent and intense. Storms threaten the nation’s more than 6,000 kilometres of coast, while changing rainfall patterns are causing more droughts and more floods, with avalanches and landslides occurring more frequently in its mountain areas.

For a business, those aren’t the only reasons to make the transition to Distributed Energy Resources. By generating its own power, a company not only saves money, it gains the ability to manage the power it uses to suit the needs of its plant.

This approach can offer lower-cost electricity and greater reliability, as well as the reduced environmental impact that’s inherent.

Solar energy has a minimal impact on the environment. It produces no greenhouse gases and requires very little water for maintenance. It also produces no noise, which is important in an urban setting. The fact that an array can be installed on the customer’s premises, at the point of use, means that very little energy is lost in transportation and distribution.

Why make a transition to clean power sources effort to shift to clean power sources. The country is extremely vulnerable to the impact of climate change, with natural disasters becoming more frequent and intense. By generating its own power, a company not only saves money, it gains the ability to manage the power it uses to suit the needs of its plant. The installation consists of 585 photovoltaic solar panels that can generate more than 2.4 million kWh annually, avoiding emissions of as much as 326,624 kilos of carbon dioxide. This helps propel industry towards the target of carbon neutrality by 2050, a year when almost 80% of energy produced is expected to come from renewable sources.
