Enel X and Uber sign an agreement for the installation of new charging points and accelerate electromobility in Chile

  • This alliance - unprecedented in the industry - commits Enel X to make new electric charging stations available in strategic locations in Santiago, in addition to its extensive public charging network of 1,200 points throughout Chile, from Arica to Punta Arenas, which currently exceeds 300 electric stations installed within the framework of the ElectroRuta Enel X project.

  • The agreement will allow in the future to facilitate the inclusion of electric vehicles as a travel option in the Uber app, ensuring a good experience for drivers and users. Uber has committed that by 2040 100% of the trips on the platform globally will be emission-free

Santiago, December 7, 2021.- Through the signing of an agreement that seeks to accelerate the adoption of electromobility in Chile, Uber and Enel X committed to developing a series of initiatives that will allow important steps to be taken to meet this objective

This alliance - unprecedented in the industry - commits Enel X to the installation of new charging points in strategic areas of the Metropolitan Region, in addition to the more than 1,200 electric stations contemplated by the Electro Ruta Enel X project, for which More than 300 have already been installed, between Arica and Punta Arenas.

In addition, in this first phase, during the first half of 2022, Enel X will make available up to 300 electric vehicles, which may be leased by Uber driver partners. This initiative, which will seek to reach 3,000 cars in the future, will allow the inclusion of electric vehicles as a mobility option within the Uber platform and will mean doubling the number of electric vehicles in Chile.

The General Manager of Enel X, Karla Zapata, stated during the signing of the agreement that “2022 will be a historic year for electromobility in Chile, and from Enel X we are consolidating important alliances, such as this one with Uber, to accelerate the energy transition of all types of fleets, from light vehicles, last mile logistics, trucks and public and private electric buses. We are reducing the existing barriers for the development of electromobility projects, with turnkey solutions, even offering financing opportunities for fleets, electrical infrastructure and works ”.

On behalf of Uber, the agreement was signed by its General Manager in Chile, Alberto Vignau, who added that “at Uber we know that our impact goes beyond technology and we want to support cities to rebuild better after the pandemic , becoming your allies to combat climate change. Our vision is to generate a sustainable mobility that is shared, electric, multimodal and inclusive and this alliance with Enel X is a first step in that sense ”.

In addition, the agreement will allow Uber driver partners, who have electric vehicles, to access special discounts for fast charging in the new electrostations, which will have charging infrastructure of up to 150W of power, which will allow them to charge the cars in just minutes.

The technological platform has committed to making 100% of the trips on the platform globally by 2040 zero emissions. For this reason, the agreement with Enel X provides Uber Chile with the first bases to start this change that in the near future considers enabling the option of requesting trips in electric cars in Santiago.

About Uber

Uber's mission is to create opportunity through movement. We started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get a ride with the push of a button? More than 10 billion trips later, we develop products that bring people closer to their destination. By changing how people, food and objects move through cities, Uber is a platform that opens the world to new possibilities. Uber arrived in Chile in January 2014 and today connects users and driving partners from Arica to Punta Arenas, with products such as UberX, UberX SCL, Uber Comfort, Uber Black, Uber Kids, UberXL, Uber Flash and Uber Taxi.
