Scenic lighting brings the magic of Christmas to the streets of Angra dos Reis

In partnership with City Hall, the Luz de Angra Consortium will light up Santa’s Village and different city neighborhoods;

Niteroi, November 24th, 2021 - Special lighting will bring the magic of Christmas to the streets of Angra dos Reis this festive season. Starting on Tuesday (23/11), eight neighbourhoods in the city, including Vila do Abraão, in Ilha Grande, will receive luminous decorations, thanks to a partnership between the Luz de Angra Consortium and City Hall. In all, there will be 60 luminous decorations with five different Christmas-themed images. Santa’s Village, in the Town Center, in addition to squares and historical monuments of the city, will also receive scenic lighting to celebrate Christmas.

The inauguration of Christmas lights happens on Tuesday, at 6pm, along with the opening of Santa’s Village, in General Osório Square. The event will feature a performance by the Angra Harmony Orchestra. The enchanted village where Santa, Mrs Claus and their helpers live will remain open to visitors until January 6th, when the city's special Christmas lighting will also be dismantled.

"Scenic Christmas lighting is a tourist attraction in major cities around the world. Angra is entering this circuit at a very representative moment. After a 2020 where there were almost no Christmas celebrations because of the pandemic, we want the Christmas lights to help give hope and joy to residents as well as bring visitors to the city," said Carlos Eduardo Cardoso, e-City director at Enel X, a company that is part of the Luz de Angra Consortium, alongside the companies Selt Engenharia and Mobit.

Santa’s Village is open all day long, but Santa himself will be on hand to welcome visitors from 6pm to 10pm. From Friday to Sunday, local artists will perform, including students from the Musicalizando project. On the other days there will be mechanical sounds with Christmas music. On December 25 and January 1, Santa Claus House will not operate.
