Long Way Up, an electrifying journey

A road trip like no other. Navigating half the circumference of the Earth in just six months via electric motorcycles, facing extreme cross-country conditions with every type of terrain possible including dirt roads, desert pathways and single lane thoroughfares.

 

Rain or shine, in wind and hail and definitely not for the faint of heart. Thanks to Enel X’s Electric Pan-American Charging Corridor, it’s now possible.

When not donning Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi robes, Scottish film star Ewan McGregor and fellow actor and motorcycle fanatic Charley Boorman enjoy the Easy Rider lifestyle. Their latest adventure, Long Way Up, documents their experience riding the first 100% Electric Pan-American Charging Corridor north from Ushuaia, Argentina to Los Angeles aboard sustainable LiveWires, custom Harley-Davidson electric motorcycles made exclusively for the duo. Enel X accompanied these wild hogs for every leg of the Long Way Up providing the necessary juice with charging infrastructure and proving that electric mobility can get you everywhere you want to go.

Electric mobility is no longer a rare and inaccessible phenomenon, only available for those fortunate enough to live in major city centers. Enel X has demonstrated that the ease and accessibility of e-mobility is finally here to stay. From Tierra del Fuego to Joshua Tree, the road to the future is paved with sustainable business strategies.

With increasing demand for smart energy solutions, Enel X developed the Electric Pan-American Charging Corridor which allowed McGregor and Boorman to cover over 13,000 miles (20,000 km), 16 border crossings and 13 countries with unprecedented ease, a journey now viewable in all its glory with an11-part documentary series airing on Apple TV+.

Facing a major logistical challenge, Enel X developed an innovative and intricate network of easy-access EV chargers to ensure the wild angels had the necessary charging infrastructure to carry them north through South America. Enel X commissioned 220 Enel X JuiceBoxes, with a capacity of up to 40 amps, from Argentina to Mexico, integrating them with Enel X’s dedicated JuicePass app. Enel X’s team, together with local partners, scouted, located and stationed smart charging technology every 100 miles (160 km), from off-the-beaten path towns to major urban areas, to support the riders.

Currently, Enel X’s JuicePass app offers over 50,000 charging points globally, providing drivers with sustainable, energy-efficient solutions. This is just another step towards Enel X’s overall future goal to reduce energy consumption and support people, cities and businesses throughout the globe via a circular economy.
