An e-Mobility JV to Bring Fast Charging to Italy
The agreement foresees the installation of 20 charging sites across Italy by the end of 2019. Each site will host up to six 350 kW ultra-fast stations that enable the latest-generation e-cars to “fill up” in just 15-30 minutes. The 20 IONITY charging stations are included in the joint venture’s plan to install 400 such sites across Europe by 2020.

This important agreement marks our entry into a new, forward-looking stage in e-mobility, with the creation of a charging station network that will provide a rapid response to the energy demands of electric cars, generating drastic cuts in charge times. The network will enable e-cars to travel long distances, combining environmental sustainability with the pleasures of a sporty, safe drive. As an IONITY partner, Enel X will select the most suitable locations in Italy for high-power stations to supply the high end of the e-car market. Our objective is to give a further impulse to the spread of e-mobility in Italy, integrating these high-performance structures with Enel’s national e-mobility plan.

No More Range Anxiety
Under the agreement, Enel X will identify the locations, assess their suitability, and install the first IONITY station by the end of 2018. The new Ultra-Fast charging points will revolutionize the refueling concept. While worries about long charging times were a significant deterrent to electric mobility, the Ultra-Fast stations by Enel X and IONITY effectively give the green light to buying an e-car. It will only take a few minutes to fully charge an up-market model, for both Enel X clients and those who use other operators in the IONITY network.
New arrivals on the e-car market will be equipped with CCS, the combined charging system that adapts to different types of columns, enabling them to “fill up” in 15-30 minutes. Some models, like the Porsche Mission E and the Audi E-TRON, are set to launch at the end of this year. The new ultra-fast stations mean that current and future electric vehicles will enjoy complete freedom of movement, including on long journeys across Europe.

IONITY and Enel X are traveling on the same road. We want to make long-distance journeys possible for all e-vehicles throughout Europe. Our partnership with Enel X enables us to build a powerful charging infrastructure and combat so-called ‘range anxiety,’ which at the moment is the main cause for concern for e-vehicle drivers.
